Tonight's TV [Nov. 9th, 2009|11:46 pm]
Big Bang Theory continues to be hilarious, even if the gender issues make me wince sometimes. I really need to write up my 'Leonard is a Nice Guy and that explains the Shenelope ship' theory.

Castle isn't laugh out loud funny, but it is fannish-friendly, and awesome on gender issues. I want to be Martha when I grow up.

I love a good Apocalypse [Nov. 8th, 2009|09:32 pm]
Watching 2012: Startling New Secrets on Sci Fi channel, and working on the scrap afghan. Not a bad documentary, considering it's an ad for the movie coming out friday.

Disreputable Manor [Nov. 8th, 2009|02:17 pm]
New Kenmore 800 washing machine was delivered yesterday by Sears. It's an energy star model, so hoping to save a little. The green-ads say the washer will pay to run the dryer.

On the eighth load, and it seems to be working all right.

It's physically a little smaller than the old Maytag. I fold clothes on the lid, so I noticed that. But it's also 'larger' the wash basin sits deeper in the frame. It's a 4.0 capicity, I'm not sure what the old one was.

The old Maytag had dials for size load, temperature, and type of wash. The Kenmore has dials for soil level, temperature dial has cold and tap cold, and I'm not sure what that means. I run everything on cold, except whites, so I've been using tap cold. There's a dial for if you're adding fabric softener or not. I hardly ever do. And one for one rinse or two. Leaving that set on one.

The washing dial also has settings for prewash, soak, bedding, and handwash.

Also, there's a little funnel-basin set into the inner frame to pour liquid bleach into.

TV Tonight [Nov. 6th, 2009|11:46 pm]
Okay, last night's CSI. Ecklie doesn't want any more techs moving to field-work, when Wendy asked. Hodges asks if she wants him to talk to the guy, because 'they're in book club together, and he respects my opinion. On Pride And Prejudice And Zombies, at least." Why is there not a Labrat spin-off yet?

Batman: Brave And The Bold. Catwoman in the teaser and the Outsiders versus Psycho Pirate.

White Collar. Loving this show. Read more... )

Also: two episodes and there's already three White Collar songvids on youtoob. I heart fandom.

Dentist today. No cavities for either of us. Yay!

Ran and looked at washing machines at Home Despot and Lowes. Think we're leaning toward a Maytag Centennial, but we've got two local appliance places to look at tomorrow.

I have a big skein of dark green yarn that doesn't fit either of my afghan projects, so I decided to try and make a Piper costume for a Ken doll. Couldn't find a free online crochet pattern for a simple tunic. (really thought there'd be at least one.)

So far I've learned two ways not to make one, and completed a really ugly hat.

Disreputable Manor [Nov. 4th, 2009|12:16 am]
Started the fall cleaning. Stripped and washed dad's bed, flipped and fabreezed matress, did more laundry. Watched NCIS, Dirty Jobs, and V. Started to shampoo the family room rug...and the washer started leaking. Small load this time, so it's not like the last time he overloaded it. Also Dad used the kitchen pyrex measuring cup for the rug detergent instead of the laundry room 'chemicals' one. Ew.

I have a feeling I know what I'm getting for 'christmas'. If it holds out that long.

Experiments In Food [Nov. 3rd, 2009|02:30 pm]
Failure.

Just tried to make Wanchai Ferry spicy garlic chicken for dinner. The frozen kind, I think they also have a meal kit where you buy fresh chicken.

Inedible. Very spicy, not enough rice to cut it, and that horrible 'candied' sweetness to the sauce before the heat kicks in. If I wanted sweet and sour chicken, that's what I would have bought.

That's why I always make sure we have leftovers before I try a new recipe/frozen food.
